Hermannstraße @ tunnel19 Studio

It is known as one of the noisiest, most chaotic, dirtiest and most honest streets in Berlin: Neukölln’s Hermannstrasse between the A 100 and Hermannplatz on the border with Kreuzberg. We set out together on a Saturday in November 2021 to capture something of the special flair of this street.

Berlin. Layers. Everything superimposed, everything next to each other. The World Headquarter of Evil mutates into a Capital of the Libertarians. In Berlin everything is still there and shows up in interference patterns.

What makes a place special? What is its aura, its character? Which spirit lives in it? In Roman times, the atmosphere of a place was attributed to the work of a protective spirit, the respective genius loci.
